Originally written as a synth-tape-loop accompaniment to '光' (Eilean Records), '無常' was an album that I made between my homes of Tokyo and Warsaw. Most of the recordings were done late at night or in the early hours when I couldn't sleep. The whirring of old reels and tape machines at these times and the lights from the meters, has always been my equivalent of meditation I think. This album reminds me of those machines quietly humming on the tatami mats in the studio I had overlooking the river, and just fill me with happy memories.
I did a mixdown from various reels in Warsaw as I realised the tapes were dying and the machines needed to go due to a lack of space. This version is the original mix with all its little blips and noise. The CD version was cleaned up beautifully by James Murray but I wanted to present the unedited forms as some of the weird cuts and noises remind me of the amazing character these machines had.

"Mai come in “Impermanence”, la musica di Hawgood travalica il semplicismo degli schemi definitori, proiettando la propria mosaicale interpretazione dell’elettro-acustica ambientale verso una dimensione di pura percezione sonora, colta al volo nella preziosa caducità della sua dissolvenza.” - Music Won’t Save You
“A highly personal statement, yet also appealing to a wide audience receptive enough to feel its intentions.” - Ambientblog
