Originally released in a tiny CD edition on my Koen Music (KOMU) label in Japan only on February 7th 2014.
It was part of a collaboration I did over a couple of years with the genius electronic-ambient music producer and software designer Christopher Hipgrave. I'd become quite frustrated with certain ambient submissions to the label and the assumption that was my only field and decided to go back to the Koen Park electronic roots but in a more organic way.
Out came some drum machines, guitars, synths and whatever we could get our hands on. It is also one of the few times I've sung on my released compositions (on 'The Drunken Uncles') and working with Christopher was such a blessing. The project went so well that I invited my Kinder Scout collaborator, Jason Corder (offthesky), to add some layers of vibes and rhythmic elements and it just grew to fruition perfectly with his involvement.
Amongst some of our live shows at the time, and people I spent a lot of time in communication with during those years was Ben, Antony, Rie, and Erik. They're all artists I hugely admire to this day and working with them directly myself to then share with the others was so personal, and is a way I typically work when part of a group release (as the control freak I am).
This was supposed to be a key release for my Koen Music label but after the site was hacked, and finding myself drained from working with certain stores and distributors alongside my day job as a teacher, I decided to drop everything. It was only because of the friendship and support of Osamu at Linus and Shin at P*Dis that I decided to do a simple low-key Japan-only release with them exclusively of this material. I ended up getting Taylor Deupree and James Plotkin to master most of the work and released a very limited amount of hand-made packages. They ended up being incredibly popular in local Japan record stores but despite requests to do a proper run of each release, I sadly refused. In fact, I hadn't listened to any of the Koen Music releases until very recently.
It has taken some ten years to really recover from the frustration of those times, and I'm finally at a point (at the tail end of 2022) to truly appreciate that period of beautiful collaboration and friendship.
The plan is for a full reissue on Home Normal in 2023 but we'll see how that goes.
Thanks for listening x Ian

A wonderful musical collection that shows the unity of the whole world and the support of Ukraine during the long war, which will undoubtedly end with the victory of Ukraine. And now the terrible numbers... Only according to official data as of today #russiaisaterroriststate killed 510 children in Ukraine, injured another 1141 children, kidnapped 19546 children. There are many more unofficial victims. And russia remains a member of the UN... desynkro303
